This film doesn't offer anything remarkable; it’s simply ordinary throughout. Nevertheless, it functions adequately as a standard action movie, achieving what it set out to do: provide ninety minutes of agreeable diversion. The narrative follows a familiar pattern—the protagonist returns after an absence to discover that the antagonists have seized power. It’s a storyline that's been employed since the earliest days of cinema, and even before. The film could easily be considered a contemporary Western in terms of its plot structure. Dwayne Johnson delivers a serviceable performance as the hero. The action sequences, which are likely the primary reason someone would watch this movie, are competently executed. They possess the quality of a made-for-TV production rather than something more ambitious, but they’re sufficient for what the film is. The plot unfolds precisely as one might anticipate. The hero returns home, confronts the bad guys' control, engages in conflict with them, the antagonists attempt to target the hero through his loved ones, and that effort proves unsuccessful. Then, the hero pursues the main antagonist in an extended chase culminating in a fight, after which a happy ending arrives along with the closing credits. As mentioned earlier, it’s essentially an updated Western. The traditional saloon has been swapped for a casino, and whiskey and cattle have given way to dishonest gambling and contemporary drug trafficking. The one element I found genuinely absurd—and I mean that in a negative sense—was the courtroom scene early on. Spoiler alert! It's unbelievable: the hero destroys a casino and is then put on trial, displays his scars to the jury, requests an acquittal, and the jury readily grants it. Seriously? Aside from this one flaw, the movie successfully served its purpose of shortening my life by ninety minutes while preventing me from being bored in front of the television.
