It's rare to find a film without any flaws, but it's difficult for me to identify any shortcomings with this movie, which goes by the name Waking Ned Devine in America. Maybe something will occur to me before I’m done writing about it. This is an entirely uplifting experience from beginning to end. Alright, there is a death early on, but it happens immediately after someone wins the lottery. The filmmakers establish what's going on by introducing several characters and providing some details about their lives. Then, the narrative unfolds in a straightforward and effective way. Kirk Jones penned and directed the film, which apparently began as a ten-minute short. Luckily for everyone involved, he was persuaded to develop it into a feature film. It received numerous awards or nominations. Some performers accepted reduced salaries to make sure the movie would be produced, and I understand that some local residents from where filming took place (the Isle of Man) were also part of the project. Interestingly, Jones has only a few writing credits in film; before movies, he created several very successful advertising campaigns. Besides being funny and delightful, the soundtrack is one of my favorites for any movie. The music enhances the atmosphere and even contributes to telling the story at times. I’m afraid I haven't been able to think of anything negative to say about Waking Ned Devine.
