It reminded me of 'Rear Window' combined with 'Castaway on the Moon'. This is a singular movie, essentially without purpose, even though the world is populated by unusual individuals and anything seems plausible. The film began as a short story with the same title. A writer who decided to direct it brought this to the screen. Much of the storytelling occurred through narration, despite the narrative not being presented as a memory sequence. This was because there wasn't much straightforward conversation between the characters. Howard Wakefield is a husband and father of two. He works hard to support his family but appears dissatisfied because they seem to be overlooking him. An ideal situation arises for him to discover what his family would do if he were gone, potentially resolving all his uncertainties. The incident happens without any preparation, but the duration and repercussions are explored in greater detail later on. Bryan Cranston delivered a strong performance; he’s been choosing good projects recently. I did think he might have been too old for this particular character though. The other actors were adequate, particularly Jennifer Garner. The story itself was uncomplicated yet captivating. Perhaps it offered a fresh perspective on self-discovery. I anticipated the conclusion with some excitement, but the resolution felt underwhelming and predictable given what had transpired previously. Most viewers would likely anticipate a conventional cinematic experience, complete with dramatic developments and surprises. However, this felt more like reality; the unbelievable part was how Howard managed to remain hidden in the attic for so long. The inclusion of flashbacks added an intriguing element. When you’re clearly hoping things work out for Howard, that older narrative has the potential to shift your perspective, possibly toward a more detached viewpoint. They established a compelling environment around the event, but I felt it all lost its impact because the outcome didn't explicitly address the consequences. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it and would recommend seeing it. _8/10_
