This thriller featuring Bela Lugosi as the eccentric scientist ("Dr. Marlowe") presents familiar territory; he’s abducting young women from their vehicles and employing hypnotism alongside strange voodoo practices to drain their vitality so he can revive his deceased wife. George Zucco plays his accomplice, a garage owner who assists in finding suitable victims. A reporter (Tod Andrews) encounters Louise Currie after running out of gas, but when she disappears as well, he teams up with the sheriff to uncover what’s happening. John Carradine provides some amusement in the role of the naive "Toby," though the rest feels like something we've seen before, executed at a comparable level. It isn’t awful, although that hardly constitutes high praise.
