James Stewart portrays Peter Morgan, a quiet and unexciting college instructor visiting New York City with his more lively cousin, James Ellison, who enjoys spending time at nightclubs. Peter encounters Francey (Ginger Rogers), a singer, and they quickly develop a connection, leading to marriage and his bringing her home. However, he hasn’t informed his parents about their union. His father holds traditional values, his mother is rather timid, and Peter desires to simply be with his wife but finds himself presenting her as his cousin's girlfriend instead. The film maintains a lighthearted tone; Rogers delivers an excellent performance, though Stewart’s character feels somewhat underdeveloped, and the story occasionally drifts into unnecessary silliness.
