This is a strong movie centered around Fúsi, a 43-year-old man living with his mother. His life seems wonderful enough, with a good job and a loyal friend. However, he’s aware of the judgments people hold towards someone like him, which prevents him from socializing and makes him feel like an outsider. He doesn't seem to care much about those who tease or bully him; he's a man with a good heart that goes unnoticed by others. The phrase "There comes a time for everything" sets the stage. Two women enter his life: Hera, a young neighbor girl who quickly becomes his playmate, and Sjöfn, a woman of his own age struggling with mental health issues. This part of the movie is exciting—it suggests that everyone has someone waiting to connect with them in the world. He must choose between embracing childhood through Hera or growing up and moving forward with Sjöfn. Following an incident, he understands what’s best, but faces complications. The film shifts its focus at this point, though the ending isn't something you might hope for. > "You are becoming a real chef. I guess she does not cook much." Filmmakers often try to avoid clichés, particularly in endings, and that’s what I disliked here, even though I appreciated the original conclusion. Society has witnessed and continues to grapple with racism, gender inequality, religious discrimination, LGBT issues, and more. This movie addresses a very common concern across cultures and societies—what it's like to be different. It isn't attempting to educate viewers, but you can’t ignore the seriousness of what it portrays. The scenes frequently contain lighthearted humor. There’s a bit of a love story and a bit of a playful narrative, but ultimately it’s about life and its difficulties. The film offers a glimpse into what it's like to be different, whether by personality or appearance. While the characters display their emotions, they aren’t as emotionally impactful as one might expect in a movie with this theme. Usually, that’s what audiences anticipate. I think a story like this would have been more depressing if handled differently; so, it isn't a tearjerker. It felt like "The 40 Year Old Virgin" combined with "Terri." It deals with a sensitive subject and explores a big idea in a small film. The script is well-written and the acting is excellent, particularly from the lead actor. Any professional could have played the part, but not as perfectly as he did. I haven't seen an Icelandic movie in quite some time, but I’m very pleased with this one. I would recommend it, but keep in mind that it isn’t a purely entertaining or deeply inspiring film; it falls somewhere between the two, which is what I’d say. 8/10
