The character of "Santa" (David Harbour) finds himself losing enthusiasm for Christmas. He’s grown weary of distributing presents to children raised in a culture he views as ungrateful and disposable, and has turned to alcohol. One night while leaving Bristol, he drunkenly crashes his sleigh far away, landing at the estate of the wealthy but deeply troubled "Lightstone" family. This group is controlled by their matriarch, "Gertrude" (Beverly D'Angelo, who brought Goldie Hawn to mind), and they’re struggling with familiar problems like separation, greed, advanced intelligence in their children, and a general sense of predictability. However, the Lightstones are being targeted by dangerous robbers seeking $300 million hidden within an extremely secure vault located in the basement. "Santa" inadvertently gets drawn into this situation, initially wanting nothing more than to escape. He notices the frightened young "Trudy" (Leah Brady), and things quickly escalate! The film occasionally indulges in overly sentimental moments, and the family conflicts feel well-worn, but when the action sequences begin, it delivers a blend of “Home Alone” (1990) and "Thor" (2011), complete with some genuinely funny instances as the story progresses along its predictable path. While there's violence and gore, the fact that much of it comes from this embodiment of kindness and friendliness sets it apart, making it quite entertaining – Harbour gives a very engaging performance. The movie does feel lengthy at times, and you might wish certain parts moved more quickly, but overall it’s an enjoyable experience, definitely not suitable for children.
