The streaming release of Vikram feels like a revisiting of past ideas and action sequences designed to expand on the groundwork laid in Kaithi. However, as the plot progressed, it became confusing, much like its predecessor, and dissolved into something fairly unremarkable. The nods to Kamal Haasan’s earlier films were amusing at times, but occasionally it seemed the director was pushing too hard to craft a fresh narrative. Certain moments benefited from the cinematography and music by Anirudh Ravichander. Still, after seeing all the action, I felt that the film could have achieved more in terms of developing memorable characters and a simple, emotionally resonant story. Overall, Vikram is an enjoyable and accessible movie, though it didn’t quite live up to my hopes for something truly exceptional.
