The movie Venom involves an entity possessing a codex that could lead to universal destruction, pursued by formidable extraterrestrials. I found myself enjoying the film considerably—the dialogue between Eddie and Venom was entertaining and lively, with well-executed action sequences, engaging characters, and a generally solid narrative—but my enthusiasm waned significantly after a scene set near a river. The extended Volkswagen journey felt uncomfortable to watch, and the Vegas dance number seemed odd and frivolous. While the final confrontation offered plenty of visual spectacle and thrilling alien battles, it didn’t quite have the impact I'd hoped for. *sigh* -- DrNostromo.com
