_Venom: Let There Be Carnage_ doesn’t attempt to be anything more than a straightforward superhero movie, but if you didn't enjoy the initial film, this one won’t change your mind about Marvel’s dangerous hero. Tom Hardy, playing two parts, is the reason these movies have any merit at all; his unusual and funny interactions with himself are remarkable. The film also has a rapid tempo that rushes from one action scene to another and concludes fairly abruptly, which leaves _Venom: Let There Be Carnage_ as one of those rare, exceptionally foolish blockbuster films that occasionally manages to achieve something unexpectedly entertaining. The sequel is better than the first because it fully accepts its lack of seriousness, creating a comic book film that feels airy, ridiculous, and amusingly deranged all at once.
