The film discovered an audience—and still does—feeling like an extended MTV video: a chaotic celebration of monsters presented in a rock opera fashion. The movie is full of effects, though these aren’t particularly impressive, and the dialogue and accents can be embarrassing at times. Nevertheless, it's an exciting experience; you just have to surrender to it and enjoy being surrounded by attractive actors dressed in Gothic clothing within a wicked historical setting. It's loud, over-the-top, and occasionally cheap, but ultimately exhilarating for those seeking pure escapist action. 5/10
