This latest installment, *Vacation*, feels like a disappointing end to the series—though, predictably, another one will probably surface eventually. It’s billed as a continuation of the earlier films, but functions more like a fresh start that ultimately doesn't amount to much. The whole thing just seems uninspired and contrived. Ed Helms and Christina Applegate don’t work well together on screen, and their performances are unremarkable. Helms especially seems out of place in his role. Skyler Gisondo and Steele Stebbins, playing the children, are considerably better—they stand out favorably compared to the adult cast. Chris Hemsworth's appearance provides some amusement, but it quickly becomes tiresome, even with limited screen time. Chevy Chase and Beverly D’Angelo also make brief returns, which feels obligatory. D’Angelo is essentially pushed aside; I don’t recall her having many lines at all. A few of the other actors who appear in smaller roles are intriguing to see, including Charlie Day, Ron Livingston, Keegan-Michael Key, and Regina Hall. There's even a brief appearance from an actor recognizable from *The Walking Dead*—an unexpected but welcome addition. Ultimately, I’m relieved this is the last film. This 2015 movie doesn't deliver many laughs. It earns a rating of 5/10 from me.
