The movie "Upgraded" had the potential to be a standard, easily overlooked romantic comedy—the kind that takes elements from many other films without bringing anything new. However, the ending is so poorly conceived and sends a troubling message – essentially suggesting dishonesty carries no repercussions, in fact it’s beneficial – that recommending it to people who enjoy rom-coms becomes impossible. From the very beginning, the plot unfolds exactly as expected, lacking any originality and culminating in an uninspired solution to the main character's issues. Camila Mendes and Marisa Tomei are talented performers and should be offered better roles than what’s presented in what is currently considered the worst film of 2024. Rating: D-
