"Until Dawn" doesn’t exactly fill you with anticipation, particularly once you learn it originated as a Playstation game. You should probably brace yourself for something far from intellectual and expect to encounter a collection of very shallow characters instead. These individuals are essentially meant to be expendable, and that's exactly what they become—each one is killed off in a violent and methodical fashion until the large hourglass at the visitor center resets, allowing the cycle of destruction to start over again, much like the "Star Trek" episode "Day of the Dove" from the original series. This core concept quickly exhausts its potential, giving way to the Playstation influence, which puts the appealing young actors in numerous dangerous situations and forces them to flee while being relentlessly chased by some disturbing figures—what are they? The undead? Regardless, they’re not sharing any secrets about immortality with our youthful protagonists. Despite the constant spray of blood and gore, which is impressively rendered through the visual effects, it all manages to be quite entertaining.
