The premise of Unfriended—presenting the whole narrative through a computer screen—is certainly striking. It's an inventive way to portray contemporary online life, though the format does present constraints. The initial portion effectively builds suspense and demonstrates believable digital exchanges; however, once the story shifts into supernatural horror territory, it begins to feel less connected to reality. The plot involving a vengeful spirit doesn’t entirely convince, resulting in a film that exists somewhere between a disturbing warning and an improbable horror movie. The performances are adequate given the circumstances, particularly if you view it as a misguided act of retribution. Still, the supernatural aspects don't completely deliver on the scares. On the positive side, the use of music, along with its accompanying visuals in playlist form, is a neat and entertaining detail. While Unfriended should be acknowledged for attempting something new, it lacks the substance required to make it an exceptional horror movie. It wasn’t unpleasant, but it falls short of being truly impressive.
