It feels especially important to be careful about what we do these days, given how quickly things spread online. This is definitely a new kind of movie experience. I’m not sure it really fits the “found footage” label, though, because the webcams used feel very authentic to me. It's interesting to learn that it cost just $1 million to make, runs for 80 minutes, was filmed in only 16 days, and manages to look like one continuous shot in real time. The film centers on a group of friends dealing with the recent suicide of their friend. One day, during a Skype chat, they notice an unfamiliar contact among them claiming to be their deceased friend. That’s when the search begins—to figure out who's behind it and what their motive is. The basic plot feels familiar. It’s like putting a group together in one space where secrets are revealed, leading to complete chaos. “Cube” comes to mind as an example. What follows is something we’ve seen before in thrillers—a well-known trope. I initially thought this film would be similar, and it was, but adapted for the digital world, which reflects current trends. It's a movie that young people and those familiar with online platforms like Facebook, Skype, Google, and email will likely appreciate. Throughout the entire film, you only see computer screens. You have to pay close attention to where the mouse is moving, what’s being typed, and listen carefully to the audio commentary—it's almost like sitting next to someone while they use their computer and watching what they do. I think it was a good movie; it kept me guessing until the very end. I watched it a bit late, but I’m glad I didn’t miss it. There’s already a sequel in production slated for release later this year, but I doubt it will be as impactful. The franchise could easily follow a path similar to “Paranormal Activity” if they keep making sequels. The acting was good—I even thought one of the actors looked like Jennifer Carpenter, since one of the film posters reminded me of "Quarantine," but then realized it was someone else during the viewing. Even though the storyline is familiar, the setting makes all the difference and it’s quite entertaining. The ending was a surprise; I hadn't realized this was a specific genre until that point. It’s definitely worth watching for its modern take on an old story with plenty of suspense. 7/10
