The film could have been stronger if Eric Bogosian’s portrayal of the tech expert "Dane" wasn't so over-the-top and theatrical. He has gathered a group of ruthless mercenaries led by “Penn” (Everett McGill) with the goal of seizing a train transporting communications equipment capable of controlling a dangerous satellite. Following some brief intimidation of the passengers, he obtains the necessary codes and is requesting $1 billion from the United States government. What he didn’t anticipate was that train porter "Bobby" (Morris Chestnut) possesses ninja abilities—and also that former SEAL "Ryback" (Steven Seagal) happens to be on board with his niece "Sarah" (Katherine Heigl). Facing overwhelming odds, they must collaborate to stop the villain's scheme before he destroys Washington DC. It’s a reasonably well-paced action movie featuring plenty of fighting but lacking memorable characters or dialogue. Trains often make suitable settings for hostage situations, and this one maintains a good level of action until the predictable conclusion. While not as impressive as the original, it isn’t terrible.
