This Amazon Original film proved to be quite enjoyable. The cast, largely comprised of unfamiliar faces, delivered performances that felt believable in their roles. I appreciated that the portrayal of the father avoided depicting him as simply an aggressive, abusive figure; instead, there was a degree of complexity added, even if he remained far from likeable. The script held up well to a certain extent. What I mean is that the storyline seemed to draw on familiar tropes regarding gay people in the 1970s, which resulted in predictable dialogue and scenarios. Of course, clichés arise because they often reflect shared experiences or occurrences. A significant revelation hangs over the narrative, but even if you suspect you’ve figured it out, there's a clever twist waiting. It's an agreeable story, blending elements of growing up with an exploration of a social concern from the 1970s.
