It took real effort to get going again after the film finished, even just shifting position during those final scenes and the credits. I can’t think of any other Indian movie quite as bleak. When it was over, I felt a sense of **UGLINESS** deep down, which isn't something you want to experience, but seemed to be what the filmmakers were going for. The narrative focuses on a ten-year-old girl who disappears. Her father is an actor having difficulty finding work, her mother struggles with alcohol, and her husband holds a high position in law enforcement. There’s also a friend of the actor who works as a casting director, among other significant individuals. The main characters are attempting to discover where the girl has gone, but they all have unresolved issues with one another, which is relevant to the film's title. What's more disturbing than the apparent abduction is how invested each person is in their own agendas and prioritizing those needs over finding the missing child. As the story progresses toward its conclusion, it exposes the unpleasantness within these imperfect people. It’s not something for sensitive viewers. Anurag Kashyap is my favorite Indian director working today, so I always have a certain fondness for his films, but *Ugly* has to be considered his best work so far. The plot isn't without its imperfections, however the direction is exceptional. Kashyap completely succeeds in portraying the unpleasantness of his characters, who feel like ordinary people we could encounter every day, which makes it all the more unsettling. The performances from the entire cast were outstanding; each actor truly embodied their role, eliciting a wide range of emotions – empathy, anger, sadness, and compassion. The script and editing are well-crafted, with naturalistic dialogue. I noticed a couple of minor inconsistencies in the plot, and if those had been resolved, the story could have been flawless. **Overall, I’d give it a solid 9 out of 10.**
