The story centers around meteorologist "Kate" (Daisy Edgar-Jones), who returns to her job observing weather patterns and issuing warnings about potential tornadoes. She’s joined by former colleague "Javi" (Anthony Ramos), bringing along military technology capable of creating three-dimensional models of these storms, which pulls her back into the field. There she meets "Tyler" (Glen Powell), a man who films tornadoes up close for his YouTube channel. Kate's intentions are different; she hopes to map them so she can develop a method involving super-absorbent polymers to potentially halt their progress. A sense of playful rivalry emerges between them, but the situation shifts when it’s revealed that one of their financial supporters is motivated by the prospect of acquiring properties at reduced prices after tornado damage – and predictably, the rest of the narrative follows a familiar path. The film takes an unexpected turn, which unfortunately highlights limitations in Glen Powell's acting ability; while he possesses a certain charm, his performance here feels stiff. Daisy Edgar-Jones doesn’t fare much better, and the script seems unsure whether it wants to be a thrilling action movie or a sentimental romance with some forced lessons about right and wrong. The film does try to incorporate elements of science, and the special effects are genuinely impressive as these powerful natural events unfold despite human intervention. It runs longer than necessary, but remains enjoyable, particularly when experienced on a large screen. Ultimately, it’s somewhat underwhelming.
