The connection between the movie’s name and the story isn’t clear, but seeing John Barrymore and Carole Lombard engage in some playful back-and-forth is entertaining, supported by Walter Connolly’s weary “Oliver” and Roscoe Karns’ perpetually intoxicated "Owen." Barrymore portrays "Jaffe," a renowned showman who finds an unlikely talent in the oddly named "Mlldred Plotka," rebrands her as "Lily Garland," and—despite himself—determines to make her famous. He proves to have decent instincts, but their connection deteriorates as her fame grows. When she accepts a chance to move to Hollywood, he’s left behind. After several unsuccessful productions, he's eager to win her back. Will an accidental encounter on a train bring them together again, or has the situation gone too far? The script provides ample opportunity for Barrymore and Lombard to showcase their abilities, delivering theatrical flair and over-the-top performances as the story progresses for ninety minutes. A charming side storyline involves a poster boy with a unique quality appears before a satisfying ending that’s sure to elicit a chuckle. It's an elegant comedy, retaining much of the energy of a stage production, as Howard Hawks allows his stars to amuse us.
