The piano tuner named "Niki" (played by Leo Goodall), who also happens to have hyperacusis, might not be the brightest person around, though he’s certainly pleasant to look at and has a kind nature. He works alongside "Harry" (Dustin Hoffman) until Harry suffers a heart attack, leaving him with a hefty $35,000 hospital bill. Wanting to clear that debt, "Niki" starts working late shifts at a large house when he begins hearing noises coming from upstairs. While looking into it, he encounters security consultant "Uri" (Lior Raz) and his team, apparently in the process of updating the owner’s safe. Due to his unusual sensitivity to sound, “Niki” can hear the clicks as the safe locks, so he readily agrees to open it for them. Suddenly, he's tangled up in some shady dealings that he believes will help him pay off Harry’s bills and make a good impression on his girlfriend, "Ruthie" (Havana Rose Liu). She’s a music student working on her final project and hoping to get an internship with the well-known maestro "Maissner" (Jean Reno). It was only a matter of time before “Niki's” money-making plans went wrong, and now it isn't just his hearing that makes him susceptible to "Uri’s" anger. To be fair, the story doesn’t always make complete sense, but Woodall’s charm helps keep the movie afloat as “Niki’s” misadventures escalate. Hoffman doesn't have a large part, but he still manages to deliver some witty lines while trying to play matchmaker for his young apprentice. For those of us who don’t experience sound sensitivities, the film is a reminder of how much we often take our hearing for granted. I’m not sure this movie will be memorable in the long run, but if Woodall can steer clear of becoming just another face in Hollywood, then his future films might be worth watching.
