James Franco gives a commendable performance, however, the narrative feels disjointed and lacks clarity regarding Hill’s character development. The issues stem from both the writing and the direction; it's difficult to grasp the film’s trajectory or understand the struggles faced by Michael Finkel. The events that transpired offered ample opportunity for an engaging story, but this movie doesn’t manage to capitalize on them.
