It’s hard to imagine another film quite like this one existing within its category. Wayne delivers an outstanding performance portraying a stern, unwavering US marshal who takes on a case from Kim Darby, a young woman seeking justice for her deceased father. Glen Campbell also appears as the arrogant Texas Ranger "La Beouf," and together they pursue "Lucky Ned Pepper" and his criminal associates across vast landscapes. The visuals are remarkable, conveying a real feeling of the expansive terrain as the group pursues their quarry. It's a skillfully crafted film, directed with tension and occasional humor, featuring memorable music and showcasing a prominent figure who doesn’t shy away from portraying age and physical decline. Robert Duvall embodies the villainous "Ned Pepper," while Strother Martin brings amusement to his role as a horse trader. This is truly exceptional filmmaking.
