"True Crime," also known as “Dangerous Kiss,” arrived on video around 1995 or 1996, with Pat Verducci credited for both writing and directing. The film is a mystery, crime, teen romance featuring Alicia Silverstone as a California Catholic school student who teams up with a police cadet (Kevin Dillon) to look into the murders of several young women. Their search takes them to a traveling carnival. Bill Nunn portrays a detective friend of the girl’s and also the cadet's superior. The film appeared shortly after Silverstone had achieved recognition in "The Crush" from 1993 and “Clueless” in 1995, but it doesn't measure up against those films. The script is the primary issue—particularly the identity of the killer. A few creative changes could have made this a really enjoyable teen mystery with a darker feel, similar to Nancy Drew stories. However, Silverstone’s performance and other positive aspects do make it worthwhile. If you enjoyed those earlier movies, then I would suggest checking this one out. The movie has a running time of 1 hour and 34 minutes and was filmed in Los Feliz, Los Angeles, CA. My rating is B-.
