The movie centers on revealing the reality behind some false ideas. It’s a worthwhile picture, even if initial impressions might suggest otherwise. I found it enjoyable, and that's saying something coming from an adult man who isn't married. It seems geared more toward very young children. The film draws its inspiration from well-known dolls; typically, a movie is released to then promote related merchandise, but this one reverses that approach, which works pretty well. While it doesn’t reach the heights of Disney or Pixar films, DreamWorks usually occupies third place in animation quality, and within those standards, expectations should be adjusted accordingly. It's a musical, as many animated movies are, and one song was nominated for an award at the 2017 Oscars for best original song, though the film itself wasn’t nominated for best animated feature. The director previously worked on a 'Shrek' sequel. From a technical standpoint, it’s impressive with appealing character designs, vibrant colors, memorable songs and music, and especially strong voice acting. The plot is decent overall, although the notion of trolls being eaten might be frightening to younger viewers. It would make for a good family outing and is even better experienced in digital 3D. The length was appropriate and kept a steady rhythm. It joins the ranks of Smurfs, gnomes, fairies, and now these Trolls—a collection of characters for children to enjoy as they grow up. If you’re an adult who only appreciates more mature films, it's probably not worth your time unless you can view it objectively. Ultimately, it is a purely entertaining film that I recommend especially for young kids. _7/10_
