I wanted to jot down some initial reactions after watching this movie before its wider release in American cinemas—it was available on iTunes as one of their early access options. I thought it was enjoyable; while the final moments felt a little underwhelming, most of the film held up well, largely thanks to Otto Jespersen’s excellent portrayal of a seasoned troll hunter employed by the government who's become disillusioned with their covert practices. The visual effects were also remarkable—in 2012, singling out the special effects in a review really says something about how impressive they are. Certain aspects of the narrative felt unnecessary (particularly some side stories that didn’t ultimately contribute to the main plot), which prevented it from being truly exceptional, but generally: it's quite good and deserving of your time.
