The concept went astray and assembled an unreliable group. This had the potential to be a Hollywood crime saga with a large ensemble cast—something akin to Quentin Tarantino’s earlier works or even ‘The Departed.’ Several actors declined roles before filming began, but those who remained delivered solid performances. Ultimately, I feel the screenplay is at fault. The story itself was promising, but the initial portion felt dull compared to the second half, which proved exceptionally strong, particularly toward the finish—truly astonishing. It’s a film with many stars, and that's about all I know; I didn’t bother counting because I initially thought it was a contemporary reimagining of ‘Ten Little Indians.’ There is no proof to support this idea; it’s purely my speculation. However, the recurring deaths and the final resolution led me to believe the writer may have drawn inspiration from that source. Directed by the same person who brought us 'Lawless,' aiming for another hit but instead facing a negative reaction both critically and at the box office. Audience reception was varied, though. It’s certain to develop a following over time. The female characters were given insignificant roles, making them essentially unmemorable within the narrative—they mostly appear just to show their faces. However, the action sequences are well-executed and help propel the film forward, along with Casey and Harrelson's contributions. As they say, 'a slow beginning but a powerful ending,' and this movie fits that description. If you can tolerate an almost two-hour runtime, you might eventually feel it wasn’t so bad after all. Therefore, I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone, yet simultaneously caution against dismissing it without learning more about it. P.S., the closing credits song—a remix of Cypress Hill's 'Pigs'—was fantastic given the film's theme of corrupt police officers, although the lyrics felt intense. 6/10
