Following hard on the heels of another failed attempt at a female-led action franchise, Fusiosa, arrives Trigger Warning. The title is fitting because this military movie is likely to provoke disapproval due to its improbable plot, wildly unbelievable action sequences, and its portrayal of the U.S. military as heroes. I’m not against Jessica Alba, but she doesn't quite make this film work. The fight scenes are far-fetched, with Alba tossing large men around like toys. It suffers from a predictable narrative filled with tired tropes about family and American patriotism that feel forced and unoriginal. The final product is completely lacking in inspiration and unintentionally humorous in a cheesy fashion. I only got through roughly half of it before giving up. Basically, if you’re going to create an action movie centered on a female protagonist, try making some effort to ground it in reality. If there's a backstory, at least attempt a little creativity, and avoid trying to convince audiences outside the United States that their military is inherently virtuous; that idea has already been rejected.
