'Transformers: The Last Knight' marks a return to familiar territory. I unexpectedly enjoyed 'Transformers: Age of Extinction' previously, and I’m not entirely sure why, but it’s true. This film feels more like the other installments in the series; it’s marginally better than - yet still as disappointing as - the franchise’s lowest point, 'Transformers: Dark of the Moon'. It runs for close to 150 minutes, which is once again excessive. However, you have to acknowledge how much content the filmmakers managed to cram into that length; despite being mostly underwhelming, there aren't really any noticeable slow periods. The storyline involving English knights simply didn’t register with me, but I suppose this convoluted plot feels appropriate given how nonsensical these films are anyway. Mark Wahlberg isn't as entertaining this time around, although I did find Anthony Hopkins mildly amusing. I still don't become genuinely frustrated by these movies, even though I probably should be. I believe it’s because there’s a certain straightforward action that I can appreciate, so they never completely drag on. Nevertheless, they are typically disappointing films.
