“Woody” and “Buzz” are eager to go to Andy’s summer camp together, having put their differences aside. However, "Woody" injures his arm and is left behind, narrowly avoiding being sold at a car boot sale before he's spotted by toy museum owner "McWiggin" and taken hostage! It's then up to “Buzz,” “Mr. Potato Head,” and the others to locate him and rescue him, along with his new acquaintance "Jessie," before they end up in the hands of a collector overseas. Not everyone is willing to help, and "Woody" has reason to be cautious of "Prospector’s" questionable motives while “Buzz” realizes he isn't as special as his friend who was taken. There are numerous enjoyable adventures for everyone involved that maintain this animated film’s high standard. While I generally avoid overly sentimental stories, I felt this one leaned in that direction a bit more than the first installment. "Jessie’s" introduction and her backstory, which is accompanied by a mournful song, slowed down the story somewhat, but once the action resumes, it returns to being an excellent tale of teamwork, loyalty, and cleverness filled with humor. Hanks, Allen, and Rickles continue their solid performances, now joined by Joan Cusack and a strong Kelsey Grammer as "Prospector." Some might say that the initial “Toy Story” was designed to be a marketing success; this second film comes close to matching its quality and shows how appealing these characters are because they prioritize each other. It’s unusual for a sequel to come near the original, but this one makes a good effort.
