I don’t often enjoy seeing kids featured in movies, but the performance by Naíma Sentíes as the character “Sol” is remarkable. She appears with a vibrant curly wig, alongside her mother, getting ready for a party honoring her father's birthday. It becomes evident early on that her dad, "Tona" (played by Mateo Garcia), is seriously ill; in fact, a short scene of him showering suggests this man, only twenty-seven years old, isn’t expected to live much longer. The family and friends are clearly aware of this situation, with his sisters and father reacting in noticeably different ways to the impending loss. The narrative unfolds at a measured pace, but it remains consistently engaging. The drama's focus on everyday details, combined with the captivating presence of young Sentíes, makes watching their day unfold genuinely fascinating as it reveals tensions, frustrations, pressures, and a somewhat rebellious sense of hopefulness. As a group, Marisol Gasé, Montserrat Marañon, and Teresa Sánchez contribute to making this well-acted and presented story about a family facing hardship feel deeply moving. There are minimal outbursts; instead, there's a quiet strength and composure that makes it a truly touching portrayal of a young girl—and her family—who isn’t fully aware that their lives are soon to be irrevocably altered.
