A young woman of seventeen (Kiernan Shipka) is determined to prevent a masked killer from repeating crimes that occurred thirty-five years prior in a Washington town. “Totally Killer” (2023) delivers an entertaining and lively slasher film, full of references to the 1980s. Describing it further would spoil key aspects of the story, which are best experienced firsthand. It combines elements reminiscent of films such as “Sweet Sixteen” and “Halloween IV,” alongside the lightheartedness found in “Peggy Sue Got Married.” Surprisingly, the movie manages to incorporate genuine emotional depth despite its playful nature. Kiernan Shipka is a good fit for the role of the appealing and spirited main character, and Julie Bowen appears as her mother. Liana Liberato (as Tiffany) and Olivia Holt (as Pam) also contribute positively. The film’s length is 1 hour and 46 minutes; it was filmed in Vancouver, British Columbia, with locations including The Bridge Studios near Burnaby. GRADE: B+
