I’ve held onto a record my mother had for years—it featured Peter Skellern performing songs from the Astaire and Rogers musicals, and it's always stuck with me. This one is likely my top pick; the dancing feels graceful and refined, and there’s undeniable spark between Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers. While I wouldn't say the storyline is particularly strong, that really isn't the point—it’s about the performers and Irving Berlin’s collection of beautiful songs like "Isn't it a lovely day?", "Top hat, White Tie & Tails," and "Cheek to Cheek." If I have to find something negative, neither of them are truly remarkable actors or singers, but they make up for it with an abundance of sophisticated charm! Eric Blore is also quite good as the rather arrogant “Bates”—the sort of butler everyone should aspire to have, yet nobody would genuinely want.
