It’s remarkable how someone seeking a career shift can experience such a profound change in their life. Chris Rock, who recently hosted the awards show that generated considerable discussion, appears both on and off-screen in this film. I was nearly unaware of its existence until quite recently. The fact that Chris Rock wrote and directed it is genuinely surprising, as I haven’t seen any of his directorial work before. Is it worth seeing? Without a doubt, yes. Rock portrays a well-known comedian striving to transition into an action hero while simultaneously preparing for a lavish wedding with a reality television personality. The narrative takes a turn when he agrees to be interviewed by a journalist. As they spend time together, both individuals reveal personal details and discuss their lives, spanning from the past to the present. I won't spoil how the interview concludes, but it involves discovering each other’s true selves. The acting is excellent. It's essentially a straightforward drama centered on conversations about personal experiences and careers, yet the two lead actors deliver compelling performances. The beginning felt sluggish; I wasn’t sure where the story was going because everything seemed disconnected and arbitrary, aside from some flashback sequences, until the very end. If you persevere, what might seem like a delayed payoff ultimately provides clarity and meaning—the entire film is essentially encapsulated in a brief twenty- to thirty-second segment. The writing deserves recognition for this. It seems likely that the movie has been somewhat overlooked, resembling more of a television production. I also want to acknowledge the appearances by other comedians, which didn’t have a significant impact but were still welcome contributions to another comedian's project. 7/10
