It’s an acceptable film, though unlikely to revisit, and I can suggest it, particularly to those who enjoy Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s work. I share the common fantasy of seeing Dwayne Johnson in a tutu, but this feels like when The Rock turned heel during his time with WWE (then WWF). He portrays a deliberately irritating, almost unpleasant character lacking intelligence—essentially a stereotypical jock—and while the plot involves redeeming him, that redemption falls short. The result is uncomfortable; he usually takes on roles of intelligent and capable characters who are easy to root for, as Dwayne’s natural charisma shines through onscreen, so portraying someone unlikeable feels forced, and they seem to overdo it. It reminds me somewhat of what “The Pacifier” achieved with Vin Diesel—a rough but ultimately good-hearted character—and there are echoes of that here, yet he simply leans into being a jerk. I have concerns about the prevalence of misleading children (something we instruct them to be cautious about when dealing with strangers), but I’ll set that aside for now. There are numerous issues regarding the plausibility of a world where this kind of tooth fairy exists, along with other elements introduced. It's not entirely dissimilar from the explanation of how Santa Claus’ sleigh is powered by Christmas spirit, so there’s a potential “Santa Claus” style story buried within this one. The movie often lacks coherence, but it is intended for children—which would be acceptable if it weren't for the jarring shifts between silly gags that seem geared toward kids and sophisticated business concepts. I believe this film attempted to accomplish too much and consequently missed some essential elements. It’s not a bad movie, and it will likely appeal more to younger viewers, but I wouldn’t classify it as good, especially considering the many other films—even those featuring Dwayne Johnson—available for viewing.
