It's a skillfully crafted film with an unsettling atmosphere, though the final section feels drawn out and unnecessarily unpleasant. Four young people gather at a secluded property in Missouri where disturbing and frightening events unfold. “Tonight She Comes” (2016) is a well-executed independent horror movie featuring a memorable soundtrack and a pervasive sense of dread, plus Larissa White delivers a strong performance as Ashley, the main character. The filmmaker pays attention to her appearance—though that isn’t about nudity; another performer fills that role. Aside from minor issues like an illogical scene involving masturbation and Pete's aimless wandering through the woods leading him directly to where James is delivering mail, the first two parts are quite good. However, it then descends into a lifeless and unpleasant sequence of bloodshed accompanied by predictable, meaningless dialogue. The supposed climactic ending comes across as so ridiculous that it’s impossible to take it seriously—it's reminiscent of the far-fetched conclusion of “Sharknado.” Still, the writer/director demonstrates clear talent and has potential for future success if he refines his approach. He needs to address problems with his scripts, such as illogical or superfluous elements. He also should understand that simply trying to be as shocking and repulsive as possible can’t compensate for a lack of engaging narrative. It's important to note this isn’t a comedy/horror hybrid, despite some listings suggesting otherwise.
