This installment in the 007 series feels quite standard. That being said, it’s still preferable to roughly ten other entries in the franchise. The plot follows a familiar pattern: a powerful figure attempts to control global media outlets, which carries an echo of current events, but also makes this possibly the most out-of-date Bond film yet, given how chaotic and unpredictable modern media has become. Despite that, it adheres to the usual Bond conventions, featuring deadly adversaries attempting to eliminate James Bond, with the added element that this particular assassin is motivated by a desire for retribution. The action sequences are well done, and Bond remains an appealing character—a decent person overall. It functions adequately as entertainment. Ultimately, it’s simply unremarkable. I suspect very little from this film will stick with you.
