I hesitate to call it truly awful, but it’s not much better than that. As a Tom and Jerry cartoon, there's surprisingly little of the actual Tom and Jerry; instead, the movie spends too much time highlighting the live-action performers over the animated ones. That's really my main issue with it. Everything else is pretty much what you’d anticipate. A full-length film just isn't a natural fit for Tom and Jerry, so the story follows predictable patterns, which wouldn't be so bad if those familiar plot points centered on the characters we came to see.
