It’s certainly possible to enjoy "Jack Ryan: Ghost War," though I walked away with some reservations about what it was really saying. It functions perfectly well as a straightforward action movie—a familiar and predictable experience, but still entertaining enough, with brisk movement and characters that are somewhat interesting. However, the film's attempt to suggest that terrible acts can be justified in the name of security is troubling. The history of the United States demonstrates how an insistence on its own importance has resulted in numerous fatalities and a seemingly never-ending series of conflicts. Ultimately, it’s agreeable enough if you consider it a standard action film, but the underlying message felt problematic and lacked any real ethical foundation.
