Another writer and producer has stepped behind the camera for their first feature film, and they didn't do a bad job. Netflix is producing a wide range of content – shows, comedy specials – but I’m more interested in films, an area where they haven’t really made a big impact yet. I’ve watched almost everything they’ve released, and generally I’ve been pleased, although there have been a few disappointments. This isn't one of those, but it did leave me feeling somewhat underwhelmed. It’s certainly a story with potential and features an excellent cast. However, I question whether the narrative was handled effectively; something just doesn't quite feel right. The emotional impact is what saved it for me; otherwise, I would have rated it as below average. The film centers on a young woman struggling with anorexia who appears to be unable to achieve any progress. Her family is concerned, especially her half-sister and stepmother. It seems likely that there’s a history of this within the family that contributed to her situation, and the movie explores all possible explanations. A new treatment program offers a glimmer of hope, and the film reveals how things ultimately resolve with an emotional ending. Given its subject matter, I expected it to be in contention for awards, particularly for Lily Collins as Best Actress; her commitment to the role was remarkable. It’s disappointing that it didn't become a frontrunner. She described the movie as deeply personal, and I connected with it on a similar level. The title and poster are well done, and everyone acted admirably, apart from Collins, who stood out. While most people will likely enjoy or already have enjoyed this film, there are some of us who aren't quite as satisfied. That doesn’t mean it's a terrible movie, though; I would still recommend it to others. Ignore those of us with reservations – I hope it receives the recognition it deserves, and maybe even I will come around to feeling differently! _6/10_
