Titanic is undeniably a masterpiece. The film delivers on so many levels: a wonderful musical score, powerful emotions brought out by the actors' performances, and exciting action sequences that keep you on edge. There’s genuinely something to appreciate for everyone watching. Before I continue praising it, I feel like there’s one significant flaw: the framing story set in the present day. Personally, this element didn't quite work for me. I get why they included it—to add emotional weight to the main narrative—but it wasn’t necessary. It added almost thirty minutes to the film’s length, which could have been used to develop the characters further or tighten up the plot. Plus, the acting during those scenes felt noticeably weaker. That might be an unpopular opinion, but that's what I observed while watching. Getting back to the good parts, the score is truly magnificent. As soon as the credits rolled, I wanted to listen to it again just to feel like I was transported back to the Titanic. It’s not something that happens very often. The performances are all excellent. Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet had incredible chemistry together; they interacted so well and convincingly portrayed their characters' intense and fast-developing love. The movie takes a lot of time establishing their relationship, and it pays off completely at the end. Billy Zane played his role as an exaggerated villain, and even though it was occasionally cheesy, I found it effective. The supporting cast also did a solid job, including Kathy Bates, Frances Fisher, and Bill Paxton. Essentially, this film combines two separate movies into one, and both parts are exceptionally well done. The first half is a sweet and endearing love story that focuses heavily on character development, establishing their motivations and personalities. While I might have preferred this section, it’s slightly overshadowed by the second half, which is a gripping survival action story full of suspense. This part is brutal, depicting widespread panic and hysteria alongside some truly horrific deaths. The chaos was contagious and genuinely frightening to witness. Both halves evoke strong emotions in the audience and complement each other beautifully. All things considered, this movie had twenty-five years of hype and positive reviews to live up to, and I’m pleased to say it exceeded my expectations. It's been hard to shake from my mind since I left the theater. Score: 96% | Verdict: Masterpiece As an aside: I saw this film in 3D during the twenty-fifth anniversary re-release. While it was nice to see it remastered in 4K, I thought the 3D effects were poorly executed and unnecessary. This didn’t impact my overall rating, though, since it wasn't originally intended as a 3D experience, and the effect didn’t significantly detract from my enjoyment.
