It’s a challenge to create an entertaining film centered on golf, but this one succeeds by approaching it like a baseball movie. Kevin Costner seems destined for sports movies, doesn't he? He’s been in *Field of Dreams*, *Bull Durham*, *For the Love of the Game*, that football film I missed, and now this one. The script is laugh-out-loud funny; it feels as though those who made it initially intended to tell a story about a baseball player struggling with a psychological block, then opted for something slightly more inventive by adapting it to golf instead. Regardless, the movie is enjoyable, featuring both the main actors and the supporting players delivering performances that manage to be dryly amusing.
