Timecrimes, originally released as Los cronocrímenes, stands out among films that deal with time travel. Nacho Vigalondo wrote and directed this Spanish-language production. Subtitles aren't really an impediment because the film relies heavily on visuals, and its rhythm is deliberate rather than rushed. The narrative centers on Hector, beginning at his new home. He notices something in the nearby woods and goes to check it out. After being attacked, he flees from a person wearing a mask and stumbles upon a concealed laboratory located in an adjacent field. While trying to avoid this figure, he finds himself sent back one hour, leading to some surprising revelations about his own situation. The questions arise: what actions are necessary, and how far will he go, to return things to the way they were before his unexpected journey through time? The film demonstrates the intricate nature of temporal mechanics and explores the consequences of having multiple versions of oneself existing simultaneously. It's highly enjoyable and certainly deserves a recommendation.
