A movie about time travel—and what a concept that is!—brings with it chances for people to take advantage of things, naturally. To keep this new technology from being misused, an official law enforcement group (T.E.C.) is formed. We’re introduced to Max Walker, a Timecop who learns that a dishonest politician intends to become president and decides to do everything possible to prevent it. *Timecop* gave me exactly what I was looking for: Jean-Claude Van Damme delivering harsh violence within a science fiction setting. The core idea involving time travel is good, the audio and visual elements are acceptable for this kind of film, and Ron Silver’s portrayal of a shady, corrupt politician works well. Everything's arranged to allow for explosions, deaths, and opportunities for Van Damme to display his impressive flexibility, kicks, and punches. There’s some subpar acting, certainly, and it’s obvious how the story will conclude. But considering the genres it falls into and looking at Van Damme’s filmography, *Timecop* fulfills what it set out to do initially. I'm going to try altering history now. 6.5/10
