The film might easily have fallen into being unremarkable romantic comedy filler if not for the presence of Clooney and Roberts. Their involvement gave it a polished and bright feel, though still within the familiar rom-com genre. I anticipated most of what happened well in advance; that kind of movie has to adhere to certain expectations. I enjoyed Kaitlin Dever's performance in Booksmart, and I was predisposed to liking her because she bears a striking resemblance to someone close to me. It’s reassuring that she isn’t portraying antagonists! Even with the story being foreseeable, I had hoped for something more inventive regarding Clooney and Roberts’ characters. That didn't happen, but it could have been considerably worse. The depiction of the setting was engaging.
