It’s an uneven movie from 1974, though likely still worthwhile. *Thunderbolt and Lightfoot* doesn’t quite succeed as a comedy, yet it functions well enough as a road trip/heist story, even considering the unexpectedly serious conclusion. My impression was similarly mixed regarding the performances; they were just okay. This feels like one of Clint Eastwood's lesser efforts, although Jeff Bridges clearly enjoys himself and stands out in his part. George Kennedy follows close behind him, and both surpass Eastwood’s contribution, at least to my eyes. The film tries to accomplish many things, and I’m not entirely certain everything succeeds, but I would suggest watching it – the rhythm is well-managed, so it doesn't feel slow.
