Being one of eight collaborations between James Stewart and Anthony Mann, Thunder Bay held considerable contemporary significance when it was first shown, and its themes still resonate. Although it doesn't possess the same depth of character exploration found in their Westerns, it’s a visually appealing film with strong performances both on screen and among the production team. There are extended scenes focused on dialogue, which is logical considering the central issues being explored, but Mann maintains a sense of excitement and tension throughout. The narrative progresses to a powerful climax, where any remaining questions or minor problems are neatly resolved in a classic Hollywood fashion; however, thanks to the talent involved, it ultimately delivers a satisfying and complete experience. It earns a rating of 7/10.
