I found it enjoyable, though the storyline stretches believability quite a bit. Among Krzysztof Kieslowski's “color trilogy,” this film comes closest to being a comedy. The story starts with a divorce; the husband is Polish and moved to France because of his French wife. They married and built a life together, but their sexual relationship has disappeared—he’s simply unable to consummate it. He isn't impotent or homosexual; he just seems overwhelmed by the situation. Dissatisfied, she keeps all of his possessions, essentially stripping him bare and threatening him. Finding himself homeless, penniless, and with no future prospects, he decides to return to Warsaw inside his own suitcase. Eventually, he becomes a wealthy man. He’s not an honest one; his fortune was acquired through questionable means, but the movie sidesteps any moral considerations about that. Now it's time for the Frenchwoman to face consequences for what she did to him, and to pay dearly. What I appreciated most were the film's technical aspects: it's a flawless piece of artistry. The director is incredibly precise, paying attention to every small detail and ensuring everything aligns with his vision. White is prevalent throughout, mirroring its use in “Blue.” The cinematography stands out, and both the set design and costumes are well-done. Even though the music is elegant, it effectively emphasizes the film’s dark comedic tone, which really works well. The performances from Zbigniew Zamachowski and Julie Delpy are also commendable. He particularly shines not just as the lead but for the ironic and amusing way his character is portrayed. Delpy's role isn't quite as developed or engaging, but she handles it competently. My main issue with this film lies in how improbable the plot feels. Beyond the protagonist easily amassing wealth without apparent difficulties or repercussions, he’s conflicted between love and revenge. It’s clear that he hasn’t forgotten his former wife; he loves her despite all the hardships she's caused him. He simply can’t seem to hate her. Yet, he also wants her to suffer for what she did, and in a unique way. What remains is a situation of revenge without animosity?
