While driving, "Valentine" (Irène Jacob) hits a dog, which turns out to be only mildly hurt. After taking it to the vet, she returns it to the "Judge" (Jean-Louis Trintignant). She soon discovers that he’s eavesdropping on his neighbors, recording their private lives—an unlawful activity. Torn between her disapproval of his actions and a growing fondness for him and the dog, Valentine finds herself in an awkward position. The story explores how things will unfold when someone reports him to the police and he faces legal proceedings. Through "Valentine," we also witness other relationships struggling with issues of loyalty, trust, and faithfulness, inviting reflection on these matters. Of the three Kieslowski films, “White” remains my favorite, though this one is very good too. The film moves along briskly, showcasing witty writing and a charming performance from Jacob. I wasn’t entirely satisfied with how it ended—even if it did tie everything together with the previous two installments—but watching all three together in a single viewing should certainly provide an entertaining and thought-provoking experience regarding human nature and individual character.
